Why the EU farm protests will lead to more incentives for farmers to decarbonise

Despite the recent backdown on agricultural emissions in the EU, a leading expert on global climate policy has told an evokeAg audience that the momentum to decarbonise is stronger than ever. Not only will Australia be a beneficiary of increased global investment, but that the supply chain will have to work even harder to incentivise change.

Charlotte Weston, global director of Sustainability at EY and a member of the Sustainable Markets Institute, was one of four speakers on the Leaders and Laggards: Pathways to a More Sustainable Agrifood Landscape panel , hosted by APlus News' Head Of Content Jackson Hewett.

WA Cropper: Woodside has been a good neighbour

WA grains farmer Bob Nixon has dispelled the idea that corporations buying up farmland and planting ‘fence to fence’ for carbon credits will necessarily be a drag on the farming industry.

Speaking on the ‘Natural Capital: An opportunity ripe for the picking’ panel at evokeAG. in Perth recently, Mr Dixon said that Woodside’s purchase of, and investment in, a neighbouring farm in the north-eastern wheatbelt of Western Australia had resulted in clear co-benefits.

Rennylea Angus' Lucinda Corrigan says time to focus on efficiency

Lucinda Corrigan, one of the most influential cattle breeders in Australia, has declared the "halcyon period of great prices, rain, grass and demand" is over and said producers must shift their focus to efficiency. 

Her operation, Rennylea Angus, is using the DNA data collected on 13,500 cattle at a cost of over $1 million, to superimpose feed efficiency onto existing traits designed around meat quality.

Soon the event, which attracted 1,600 people to Adelaide last year, will be heading to Perth to convene from 20-21 February.

But while tech is at the core of evokeAG.’s mission, the themes at evoke AG. are anything but blue sky.
